2016 Geology Hike

Geologist Elmo Rawling of the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey gave a classroom presentation at the Discovery Center followed by a hike in the Van Vliet Hemlocks on October 8, 2016.  He described new mapping technology that allows geologists to map areas as if the vegetation was not present and gives a picture of the geological features of the land.  The Van Vliet Hemlocks are located near the terminus of the Winegar Moraine and the land offers insights to how glaciation affected the topography of the site.
