Volunteer Opportunities

As a non-profit organization, volunteers are vital to our productivity and high quality programming!  Be a part of something special and help us to make a difference in our community.  Whether you can help out for an hour, a day, or would like to volunteer on a regular basis, we greatly appreciate your help. For more information on volunteering contact Annie McDonnell at (715)543-2085 or send an email to annie@discoverycenter.net.

Current Volunteer Project Opportunities:

  • Nature Playscape - set posts for new "spiderweb" installation
  • Garden Fence - finish stapling fencing around the new, improved, and enlarged exploration garden
  • Trail Maintenance - "Adopt a Trail" by taking a hike every ~2 weeks and remove brush or fallen logs
  • Intern Cabins - assist digging the trench for a new gas line to the intern cabin addition

Current VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES include:

Education and Outreach:

Discovery Guide: As a Discovery Guide you will be responsible for greeting visitors, giving visitors general information about who we are and what we offer, and overseeing our Nature Nook and live animals (Short, concise training session required.  For more information on Discovery Guide training contact Emily@discoverycenter.net).

Eco-Discoverers: Join us on Tuesday mornings from 9-11am during the summer for nature-themed classes for 4-7 year olds.  Help with crafts, games, hikes, and other fun outdoor activities!

Eco-Explorers: Join us on Wednesdays from 10am-1pm during the summer for nature-themed classes for 7-11 year olds.  Help with crafats, games, hikes, and other fun outdoor activities!

Nibbles N' Knowledge: Our popular adult education series is held monthly on a Thursday.  Volunteers are needed to help with registration, serve drinks, bring appetizers and desserts, and help with clean-up.

 

Landscaping and Trail Maintenance:

Landscaping & Gardening: Do you have a green thumb?  Help us with our pollinator garden, restoration garden, and other landscaping projects on our grounds.  Also, ask about our Garden Club!

Trail Maintenance: Our trails are always in need of maintenance!  Help Ryan, our Grounds and Trail Coordinator, by removing fallen limbs and trees and other trail upkeep.

 

Indoor Office Work:

Office Help: Assist our office crew with mailings, filing, and other miscellaneous office tasks.

Research and Write Grants: (previous background required). A lot of our citizen-based research relies on grant funds. We need help in procuring and maintaining these funds.
