Residency

Mercer, WI

Background and Interests

Joyfully living the “good life,” after having retired and moved to our lake home in the Northwoods of Wisconsin in 1999.

Volunteer interpretive guide; leading nature hikes for urban middle school students at Camp Thunderhead on Long Lake near Mercer, WI each June and July since 2009.

Volunteer loon monitor for the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute’s Loon Watch Program – Northland College, Ashland, WI since 2001.

Reasons for signing up for this program

My realized goal has been to expand my knowledge of the natural world and to improve my interpretive skills. My hope is to continue my volunteer work at Camp Thunderhead, NLDC and elsewhere.

Specific naturalist areas of interest

I am particularly interested in the animals, birds and plants that are native to Wisconsin – especially northern Wisconsin. While studying this course, I’ve also developed a new fascination with Biomimicry.

My nature slogan that might change the world!

Learning about the natural world is one thing – learning from the natural world is quite another.
