Northwoods Field Ecology Adventure Camp
(Residence Camp through Camp Birch Trails)
June 19-24, 2016
Do you love wildlife and want to take part in wildlife research and conservation? If so then this camp’s for you! The week starts and ends at Camp Birch Trails just north of Merrill, WI. During the week travel to the North Lakeland Discovery Center to spend your days with naturalists and wildlife biologists participating in wildlife research and improving wildlife habitat. Venture out into the night to detect the echolocation of bats circling overhead. Lend your voice to a howling survey of a nearby wolf pack. Learn about bird banding, and help to release birds once they are banded. Canoe the Manitowish River in search of 5 foot sturgeon and harmful aquatic invasive species. Wade through a bog to find beautiful orchids and carnivorous pitcher plants. During this camp you will cook your own dinners over campfire and stay in the Discovery Center bunk cabins.

Have a specific badge you’re working on? We love to write new programs and look forward to creating a custom experience just for your troop. We offer tons of other guided activities such as bird banding, bog walks, river canoe trips, and winter animal tracking and snowshoeing. You can pair these guided activities with some free on-your-own troop activities like games, geocaching (we’ll lend you some GPS units), and hiking to keep the cost of your program down. Just let us know what experience you’re looking for and we’ll help you work within your budget to design a custom program or overnight just for your troop!
*All troops attending programs must meet Girls Scout girl/adult ratios.
