Night Owl Troop Overnight
12:30pm October 1- 9:30am October 2, 2016
Grades: Brownies, Juniors, and Cadettes
Cost: $30/Girl, $15/Adult*
Price includes 10 hours naturalist-guided programming, program supplies, dinner, snacks, breakfast, overnight accommodations, and badge.
Brownies will complete their Outdoor Adventurer Badge, Juniors their Camper Badge, and Cadettes their Night Owl Badge as they venture into the night to learn about owls, wolves, bats, and the nighttime jobs of the biologists who study them. Afternoon activities include canoeing, scavenger hunts and orienteering, and campfire building. Later that night around the campfire girls will enjoy storytelling about constellations, songs, skits, and delicious desserts that they made over the campfire.

Northwoods Field Ecology Adventure Camp
(Residence Camp through Camp Birch Trails)

Do you love wildlife and want to take part in wildlife research and conservation? If so then this camp’s for you! The week starts and ends at Camp Birch Trails just north of Merrill, WI. During the week travel to the North Lakeland Discovery Center to spend your days with naturalists and wildlife biologists participating in wildlife research and improving wildlife habitat. Venture out into the night to detect the echolocation of bats circling overhead. Lend your voice to a howling survey of a nearby wolf pack. Learn about bird banding, and help to release birds once they are banded. Canoe the Manitowish River in search of 5 foot sturgeon and harmful aquatic invasive species. Wade through a bog to find beautiful orchids and carnivorous pitcher plants. During this camp you will cook your own dinners over campfire and stay in the Discovery Center bunk cabins.

Brownies will complete several requirements for the Wonders of Water Leadership Journey as they meet frogs and turtles in the nature nook, search for tiny macroinvertebrates that reveal lake water quality, play a water cycle game, canoe Statehouse Lake, and discovery ways to save water at home. Complementary post–visit materials make it easy to complete the WOW Leadership Journey in a few additional troop meetings.
Brownies will complete two badges (senses and hiker) as they get geared up for hiking with a relay game, make their own sit-upons, learn to use trail signs, and make GORP. A fun sensory hike will have girls seeing, hearing, smelling, touching, and even tasting the natural world around them! Programs booked during winter months will include snowshoeing (we will provide the snowshoes).*All troops attending programs must meet Girls Scout girl/adult ratios.
