Even a professional environmental educator can learn from the Master Naturalist Course! Raised in Ankeny, Iowa, nature activities were not an important part of Melanie’s youth. Then, she became fascinated by environmental science at Grinnell College, from which she graduated in 2011. Melanie went on to earn an M.S. in environmental education the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 2015. She has worked as a naturalist intern in Minnesota and as an AmeriCorps volunteer in rural Iowa, where she taught plant and nutrition classes.
As an Iowa native, Melanie enrolled in the Master Naturalist Course to increase her knowledge of Wisconsin, especially the Northwoods. She is interested in all areas of natural science education.
