Background and Interests
I am a Wisconsin native, a Mercer High School grad, served three years in the U.S. Army, have B.A. and M.A. degrees in Public Administration from American University and did additional graduate work at U.W. Milwaukee. I currently do Governmental Affairs consulting after completing a career in human services, administration, private sector health care, and service in government at the city, county, state and federal levels.
Reasons for signing up for this program
I took the course because of a long-time interest in plant and animal life and environmental protection. My father was a “conservationist” and an advocate for wetlands preservation and enhancement and much of his interest rubbed off on me. Not sure what I plan to do with the training other than to enjoy the additional knowledge and insights.
Specific naturalist areas of interest
My special areas of interest are lakes, rivers, wetlands, and endangered or threatened species of wildlife. During my years in the Wisconsin Legislature I was an advocate for strong environmental regulation and authored the Wisconsin Endangered Species Act.
